Man City player ratings: De Bruyne and Sterling superb vs Burnley

Steffen: His kicking was a bit erratic but was always looking to redistribute the ball quickly and confident enough to come out of his box to cut out danger. Never stopped talking to his defence. 7

Walker: A solid evening for one of Guardiola's most reliable players. Combined well with Torres and then Mahrez down the flank and more importantly made sure there were no repeats of Sunday - even if the Burnley players were trying their hardest to win a spotkick. 7

Fernandinho: Had very little to do in a tidy performance, although had a let-off when Barnes got in behind him in the second half and fired over. Moved into midfield after Rodri went off. 7

Laporte: A vocal leader, comfortable at the back and also pushed Mendy and others to move the ball quicker in attack. How City miss him when he doesn't play. 8

Mendy: Much improved on Sunday's shocker as he seemed far more comfortable with Laporte next to him. His cross for the goal was intelligent, and not the first he had delivered in the game. A nice reminder as City chase a left-back. 7

Rodri: More purpose from the midfielder, who played as if he remembered the screamer he scored here last season. A confident performance without having someone alongside him in midfield. 7

De Bruyne: A trademark defence-splitting ball to set Sterling free in the first half and then another for Torres. His drive to nick the ball off Palmer's toes created the second goal, and gave him the rest of the night off.  8

Palmer: No sense of nerves on debut as he left his studs in on a tackle and shot from outside the box within the opening five minutes. Earned a good opportunity to score with a clever run but couldn't hit it across the Burnley keeper. 7

Torres: His best game yet in a City shirt as he settles, taking his man on and working with Walker on the right. Showed his versatility switching flanks and earned his first goal and assist after getting in a number of good positions. There are encouraging signs of him fitting the City style. 8

Mahrez: Another game where he has good spells and quieter ones, still looks like he is getting up to speed for the season but showed quality to lay the ball on for Torres to add the third goal as he grew into the game in a more central position. 7

Sterling: Rescued by the offside flag as he bundled wide from a few yards but looked hungry, was vocal and caused problems for the Burnley defence. Forced two good saves from Peacock-Farrell and then slammed the ball home confidently for the opener and made no mistake with his second. 8
