Man City player ratings: Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva good vs Gladbach

Ederson: He barely touched the ball with his hands or his feet, a happy bystander behind a dominant team. Made some useful interceptions in the second half 7

Walker: Showed his merit in the team when he used his speed and intelligence to cut out a Gladbach break that came from nowhere. Enjoyed pushing on down the right flank with England teammate Sterling. 8

Dias: The man never stops. He led the defence with supreme confidence and authority, knocking it across the back four. 7

Laporte: It was harsh on Stones to be dropped but Laporte looked better than he has in recent appearances, showing good awareness to defuse a dangerous situation and stroking the ball into midfield. 7

Cancelo: Who needs Kevin De Bruyne when your left-back can pick out a pass like him? His versatility caused the German side problems all evening and his quality ball made the breakthrough for the first two goals. 9

Rodri: Back in the team after watching a Fernandinho masterclass on Sunday, this was very good again from Rodri as he kept the team pushed up high and won the ball back in the opposition third. 8

Gundogan: Firmly back into the starting lineup, he stalked the edge of the box hunting for more goals. None came, but he played his part in a tireless attack. 7

Bernardo: Anything Sterling can head, so can Bernardo. A goal from one of the smallest players on the pitch and another tireless performance. 8

Sterling: He got the ball in many a promising position but was guilty of failing to make the most of his opportunities, leaving Guardiola frustrated on the touchline. 5

Foden: Caused problems by sticking to the touchline, meaning City could always switch play when they wanted. His pace troubled the Gladbach defence. 7

Jesus: Led the line well and his pressing was a key part in City scoring their first goal. Lost all urgency or clarity when presented with the ball unmarked in the box though, wasting the chance to score himself even if he did end up on the scoresheet. 7

Substitutes

Mahrez (for Sterling, 69): Harshly dropped/rotated, although he didn't have much involvement. 6

Torres (for Jesus, 80)

Aguero (for Foden, 80)

Not used: Steffen, Carson, Mendy, Zinchenko, Garcia, Stones, Fernandinho, Doyle, De Bruyne
