Man City player ratings from Sheffield Wednesday win as Bernardo Silva shines

Manchester City booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a battling 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

The Championship hosts gave a good account of themselves early on and created several chances in the first-half but were unable to find the decisive blow against the cup holders.

City were dominant, however, and eventually took the lead through Sergio Aguero seven minutes after the break.

Benjamin Mendy played the ball low into the striker, who turned and hit a left-footed shot which Joe Wildsmith was unable to keep out.

Pep Guardiola's side continued to knock on the door for a second but had to settle for a slender victory.

Here are how the players rated at Hillsborough...

Man City

Claudio Bravo 6

City’s cups keeper was untroubled in goal and was a virtual spectator.

Joao Cancelo 6

Returned to the side and was relatively untroubled on the right side of City’s defence.

John Stones 7

Missed a headed chance, but created an opening for Jesus and made a fine tackle on Da Cruz.

Nicolas Otamendi 7

Threw himself at everything and was denied by the woodwork when he headed against the bar.

Benjamin Mendy 7

Lost out to Murphy in an early duel before he recovered to set up Aguero for his goal.

Bernardo Silva 8

MOTM. Some silky play from the Portuguese and he had a shot saved by Wildsmith.

Rodri 6

Quietly effective at the heart of City’s midfield and kept them ticking over.

David Silva 6

Was quiet as part of City’s midfield three and his brilliance is finally dimming.

Riyad Mahrez 6

Blazed over from a chance and delivered crosses for Stones and Otamendi to go close.

Gabriel Jesus 6

Headed wide from a good chance and failed to connect with another.

Sergio Aguero 8

Created a chance for Jesus before he made the breakthrough thanks to Wildsmith’s error.
