Man City plans for final two weeks of transfer window centred on Harry Kane

Manchester City will focus their efforts in the remaining two weeks of the transfer window on signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

The England captain has been central to their wants and needs for months, and a 1-0 defeat to Spurs on their opening day of the Premier League campaign added to the pressure for the Blues to sign him. A breakthrough will be needed despite Kane's desire to move in order to reach an agreement with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, whose £160m valuation of his prized asset remains significantly higher than what has been offered.

Bridging that gap will be where City's work lies in the next fortnight rather than chasing other high-profile options. Cristiano Ronaldo has again been linked with a sensational move this week but can be counted with Antoine Griezmann and Robert Lewandowski as players who will not be moving to the Etihad this summer.

There were also more calls from fans for investment in another left-back after Benjamin Mendy's poor display at the weekend against Tottenham, with the Frenchman regularly bested in his position as the home side targeted him with great success.

However, it is expected that Aleks Zinchenko will start regularly once he is back up to full fitness - he came off the bench on Sunday - while once Kyle Walker is up to speed that will also allow Joao Cancelo to be an option on that flank.

Having already broken the British transfer record to sign Jack Grealish this summer, the rest of City's time in the window will be spent attempting to do the same with Kane while finalising the sale of more fringe players and potentially offloading any first-team player who there is a buying club for.
