Manchester City will offer Eric Garcia in exchange for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.
Garcia's long-term future at City is unclear after Pep Guardiola confirmed he had rejected the offer of a new contract amid serious interest from Barcelona.
City have already bolstered their defensive ranks by signing Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake but remain committed to signing Koulibaly as the ideal partner for Aymeric Laporte.
MEN Sport understands the Blues value Koulibaly at £55million and are wary of dealing with Napoli owner Aurelio di Laurentiis after seeing a deal collapse for now Chelsea midfielder Jorginho in 2018.
talkSPORT claim City could look to lower Napoli's asking price by offering Garcia in a player-plus-cash deal. The Serie A side are believed to be admirers of the Spaniard and think he would be an excellent replacement for Koulibaly.
The report adds that Garcia could be keen on a switch to Italy despite his desire to move back to Barcelona.
Elsewhere, reports claim City have discussed contract details over a potential move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
According to the Transfer Window podcast, City have discussed the role Messi would play in Guardiola's squad and have also factored in what happens if the City boss decides to leave next season when his contract expires.
Furthermore, contract and salary details have also been outlined by City chiefs.
MEN Sport understands City would never dismiss the opportunity to bring Messi to the Etihad, and look to have their best shot yet of persuading him. But they have been in enough similar positions before, and see enough significant obstacles still in front of them, to mean that they proceed with caution.
