Man City pay tribute to Diego Maradona after Argentina legend's death

Manchester City stars past and present have paid tribute to Diego Maradona following the death of the Argentina football great.

The Argentina FA confirmed the death of Maradona today in a tribute which has subsequently led to reaction from across the entire footballing community worldwide.

Current and former City players have been sharing their tributes for Maradona, while Omar Berrada, City's chief operating officer, has also given his thoughts on the sad news. Berrada tweeted: "May he rest in peace The player that made many fans of my generation fall in love with football."

Ahead of City's clash with Olympiacos in the Champions League this evening, former City centre-back Joleen Lescott also opened up on the news. He told BT Sport: "Horrendous situation. Condolences to his family and his close ones. My first memory was Italia ‘90, getting the video and being able to see his talents, having heard of him from the World Cup before. It’s a tragic scenario.

"I was lucky enough to meet the man in 2012. It was surreal, I’m not gonna lie. At the time, our biggest star was Carlos Tevez and to see Carlos in awe of someone like that, it was overwhelming.

"His ability, he had bags of it. He could go past players with ease and he made it look easy, so you could believe you could do it, but obviously it was such a unique talent. Being left footed, and the balance he showed, he was a pleasure to watch at such a young age for me. I obviously wasn’t going to emulate what he produced but it just encouraged you to try those things."

Meanwhile, City added on their own official Twitter account: "We're joining the footballing world in saying farewell to one of the absolute greats. RIP Diego Maradona."
