Man City pass on Harry Kane signing with Erling Haaland preferred, says Rio Ferdinand

Manchester City will not look to sign Harry Kane this summer, says Rio Ferdinand, with young star Erling Haaland a far more attractive option.

The Tottenham talisman's future remains a hot topic as his search for a first trophy with his boyhood club continues.

Despite growing into one of the best strikers in the world, Kane has no silverware to show for it.

City, among a number of Europe's top sides, have been linked with interest despite claims Tottenham would refuse to enter negotiations over their star man's sale.

And Ferdinand agrees that a move to unlikely, though it is due to the 27-year-old's advancing years meaning the likes of Haaland is a better investment.

"I think a season or two ago Harry Kane would have been the first choice for [City] because he can play that No 10 role and he can come deep and become part of the midfield and create extra numbers in there," Ferdinand said.

"I think now the age may be a concern and the actual price tag he is going to come with.

"When you have got people like Haaland it is a different proposition in terms of longevity to build around for a number of years."
