Man City new boy Angelino drops squad number hint

Angelino will get a new squad number on his return to Manchester City this summer.

The Spanish left-back spent four years at City coming through the ranks and wore the squad number 69 during his first spell at the Etihad. So attached did Angelino become to that number that he even wore it during a loan spell at NAC Breda in Holland.

The 22-year-old left the Etihad last summer to sign for PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal, taking the No. 6 shirt at the Phillips Stadion. But Angelino's form for PSV last season has seen City activate his buy-back clause this summer and he will provide cover and competition at left-back with Aleks Zinchenko and Benjamin Mendy .

But Angelino will get an upgrade from his old shirt number on his return to the club. After posting a picture on Instagram to mark his arrival back in Manchester, his former academy colleague Shay Faced asked if he'd wearing the No. 69 once again, but Angelino replied: "Haha, not this time bro."

He could continue to wear the No. 6 shirt that he impressed in in the Eredivisie last season, with that squad number still free at the Etihad. Nobody has worn that number at City since Fernando left the club in 2017. Angelino's fellow new arrival Rodri this week took the number 16 shirt.

Upon returning to the club, Angelino said: "I am thrilled to have re-joined City, a side playing incredible football under Pep Guardiola. Watching them while playing in Holland has been a pleasure.

"City’s performances over the last two seasons have been incredible and I am very excited about returning and hopefully contributing to the club’s bid for more success.

“I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management and I am very confident that the club will go from strength to strength over the next few years.

“The style of football we play here excites me, and I am determined to win more silverware. City gives me the best chance of doing that."
