Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Friday, 21 August.
Wolves set price for winger Traore
Manchester City are said to be eyeing a summer move for Wolves winger Adama Traore, who has a transfer valuation of £70million.
The Daily Mail, as cited by the MEN, believe that is the fee Wolves are holding out for, with City viewing him as a direct replacement for Leroy Sane.
However, it is unclear whether City will consider Wolves’ asking price to be too steep, particularly amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The club’s transfer priority this summer is the defence, which has already been strengthened with the addition of Nathan Ake.
Molineux opener to provide stern test
Wolves have turned into somewhat of a bogey side for City in recent years and the two will face off in their opening Premier League fixture.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side completed the league double over City last season and they will hope to again overcome Pep Guardiola’s men in the 2020/21 campaign opener next month.
As reported by the MEN, Wolves also bested City in a pre-season final a year ago as they edged out a victory on penalties following a scoreless draw.
That was a game that set the tone for many of City’s dropped points last season and their Premier League opener should provide insight into what lessons have been learned going into next term.
City face fixture pile-up
Manchester City are already worrying about the possibility of fixture congestion before the 2020/21 campaign has even begun.
As per the MEN, the opening-day clash with Aston Villa has been postponed, which creates fixture problems from the get-go.
That game had been scheduled to be played on the opening weekend but City have an extra week off owing to their participation in European football this month.
With no free midweek slots in the season due to a delayed start date, there is a possibility that the game might not take place until January, if City go far in the League Cup.
