Man City morning headlines as Phil Foden to be spoken to by club over breach

City to speak to Foden over lockdown breach

Phil Foden will be spoken to by Manchester City and reminded of his responsibilities after flouting social distancing guidelines.

Foden was spotted at Formby Beach playing football from less than a two-metre distance and posing for pictures.

Footballers have to adhere to the same social distancing guidelines as the general public and not adhering to the social distancing advice increases risk of infection.

Friendlies can be played

City have been given the green light to stage friendlies ahead of the planned Premier League restart on June 17.

Friendlies will allow players to build up a degree of match fitness before the league swings back into action but will be subject to strict guidelines, with clubs not being able to travel further than 90 minutes for any games.

All players will have to travel in their own cars while referees will not be allowed and games will be officiated by coaching staff.

Failure will motivate Guardiola - Goater

City may have ten Premier League matches remaining this campaign but Pep Guardiola will already have drawn his conclusions on the season, claims Shaun Goater.

The club’s former striker claims Guardiola will view this as a ‘bad season’ but will be keen to finish strongly and solidify second spot in the standings.

"Pep Guardiola is a serial winner and it seems very odd that we're talking about solidifying second place, and what a win could do in terms of creating that gap and solidifying that," Goater told Sky Sports.

"This seems very odd to be so far behind but that just shows the amazing season Liverpool have had. [Guardiola] will without doubt want to finish second. He will look at this as a bad season and think 'Yeah we've got some way to go, we've had some inconsistencies but we want to improve on that', but no doubt he wants to finish second."
