Man City morning headlines as Pep Guardiola contract claim made, Thomas Partey injury update

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Friday, 16 October.

Guardiola happy at City - Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes that Pep Guardiola is happy at Manchester City as the two coaches prepare to face each other for the third time.

City host Arsenal on Saturday evening with Guardiola keen to avenge July’s FA Cup semi-final defeat by the Gunners.

The Catalan coach is out of contract in 2021 but Arteta has taken it as a positive sign that Guardiola spoke about City’s future in a recent interview.

"It's up to him," said Arteta, who worked as a coach under Guardiola at the Etihad before joining Arsenal.

"The last time I heard an interview he was still really happy there and he was talking about the future, some of the signings they have done recently they are really young players so I don't know. I just want to see him happy."

Tierney and Partey updates ahead of City clash

Arteta also revealed that new Arsenal signing Thomas Partey could make his debut against City, but is unsure whether or not defender Kieran Tierney is available.

Arsenal are looking to make it four wins from five when they travel to City on Saturday with the Gunners having been boosted by the £45million arrival of Partey from Atletico Madrid.

"Today he will have his first training session," Arteta said at Thursday's press conference.

"He will need to go quickly… He wants to play. We will see. You see players adapting really quickly and others taking a long time.

"I’ve seen the buzz around the place. The fans are really happy, I’ve seen some really positive reactions. The same with the team and staff. We have rated him for a long time."

However, Arteta revealed he is yet to receive an update on Tierney, who was ruled out of Scotland’s games during the international break after being told to isolate following Stuart Armstrong’s positive Covid-19 test.

"This is getting very complicated when we send players abroad and lose control," said Arteta.

"Some authorities have different regulations to the ones in the Premier League. We are still having some discussions and hopefully we will have more news this afternoon.”
