Napoli invite City to complete £60million deal
Napoli are keen to sell Kalidou Koulibaly to City for £60million, according to reports.
Koulibaly is a target for Pep Guardiola in this transfer window, and Napoli are keen to offload him in order to push through their deal to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille.
City and Napoli have long been far apart in their valuations of Koulibaly, despite Napoli owner Aurelio di Laurentiis having lowered significantly lowered his asking price for the player.
Here is the latest on Koulibaly, as the MEN understands it.
Why City didn't sue Der Spiegel
Many Manchester City fans wanted their club to go on a war footing after they were cleared of serious breaches of the financial fair play (FFP) rules last month.
The high-powered legal team they had employed to overturn Uefa’s two-year ban from European competition should, insisted those jubilant supporters, now go after those who were behind what the Blues had called, from the beginning, a “clear and organised” attempt to damage their reputation.
But City shied away from any such attempt, even when Der Spiegel , the German news magazine which had initially published emails obtained by Football Leaks hacker Rui Pinto, issued more hacked emails two days after the revelation of the written reasons for City's exoneration.
Pinto himself is awaiting trial in Portugal, accused of computer sabotage, attempted extortion and other offences.
One big reason was the fact that City wanted the issue to blow over after 18 months of criticism, based on the notion that they had hidden owner investment as sponsorship money, and so had broken Uefa’s FFP rules.
After being dragged through Uefa’s own investigation, and initially found guilty by the semi-independent Club Financial Control Body, City were cleared by the fully independent Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Lazio boss criticises David Silva over Real Sociedad switch
David Silva has been criticised by Lazio following his decision to move to Real Sociedad.
The Serie A club claimed they agreed a deal with the Spaniard, following his release from City, including a £4m salary and the use of a private jet to return to Spain.
However, Silva opted against a move to Rome, in favour of a deal with Imanol Alguacil’s Sociedad, and Lazio's sporting director Igil Tare gave his verdict on the 34-year-old's about-turn.
"I learn about David Silva's transfer to Real Sociedad. I have great respect for the player, but not for the man,” Tare said in an interview with the club’s website .
The Italian giants were clearly confident of securing a move, with top scorer Ciro Immobile revealing his excitement at the prospect of linking up with Silva next season in an interview last week.
Silva has rejected Lazio’s claims of a deal being in place, insisting he accepted the only agreed to the contract offered to him by Sociedad.
