Man City morning headlines as Manchester United defender has Raheem Sterling message

Here are the Manchester City morning headlines for Tuesday, April 7.

United man praises Sterling

Raheem Sterling is the toughest opponent plenty of defenders have faced – and that includes Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

In an interview with his club’s official website, the tough-tackling defender named the City forward as the most difficult challenge he had to handle this season.

“He keeps going, just keeps on coming at you," he said. “Doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get past you in one challenge, he keeps coming back for more every time. That’s what I like.”

Sterling might have caused him some problems, but Wan-Bissaka got the better of their four duels in the 2019-20 season - twice in the league and in both legs of the league cup semi-final. City scored just four goals in those clashes, with none of them coming from Sterling.

Data simulator

A new data simulator has predicted the likely end of the 2019-20 Premier League season – with Man City finishing second.

Opta’s stats indicate Pep Guardiola’s side would have completed their campaign with 80 points in the bag – 21 points behind expected champions Liverpool, who are forecast to get a record points tally of 101, but 13 points ahead of predicted third-place Leicester City.

The table was put together with calculations for each of the league’s remaining fixtures based on the four previous years, plus estimations of the number of goals a side would score and concede.

Club statement as Guardiola's mum dies

The football world sent its condolences to Pep Guardiola following the death of his mother earlier in the week.

Dolors Sala Carrió, aged 82, passed away in Barcelona on Monday.

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends,” the Man City club statement read.

His players also added their sympathies, with Kevin de Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy, Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho amongst those taking to social media to send their condolences.
