Man City morning headlines as Guardiola reacts to Jesus comeback, Ake told best position

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Wednesday, 4 November.

Pep Guardiola reacts to Gabriel Jesus’ return

Gabriel Jesus made the perfect return to action last night, coming off the bench to score against Olympiacos.

The Manchester City striker had been out of action since September, but took a little over 10 minutes to get back among the goals after replacing Riyad Mahrez in an eventual 3-0 victory.

City manager Pep Guardiola was quizzed about the Brazilian after the game, and admitted it was important to have Jesus back at a time where Sergio Aguero’s injury has left his team with limited options up front.

"The fact he’s back is so important and good news, especially for the striker to score a brilliant goal,” Guardiola said .

“There were good things tonight, I'm delighted with most parts of the game and happy that Gabriel is back."

Gabriel Jesus’ goal doubled City’s lead, adding to a first-half opener from Ferran Torres, before Joao Cancelo rounded off the scoring late on.

After scoring on his Manchester City return against Olympiacos, Jesus could be in line for further involvement on Sunday as Pep Guardiola’s side take on Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has played just twice this season due to injury, but has found the net on both of his appearances.

"The guys are going very well. So I'm so happy to come back and of course score a goal," the Brazilian said .

"I am looking to improve my finishing all the time, so I'm getting better.

"I think a game like this was a difficult team [to face]. Before, I was looking to the game, watching, seeing the way the defenders play, so I came ready to get one chance. And I got one chance and I scored, sometimes it is going to be like this."

Nathan Ake backed to become City’s first-choice left-back

City spent big to bring Nathan Ake to the Etihad Stadium off the back of his performances at centre-back for Bournemouth, but his future could lie in a different position.

That’s according to former City defender Joleon Lescott, who has tipped the Dutchman to become City’s starting left-back before the end of the campaign.

Ake has played at left-back before, including for the Netherlands’ national team, and Lescott, speaking on BT Sport , suggested the former Chelsea man could be the solution to a problem position for Pep Guardiola’s side.

“I believe his future will be, in the latter stages of the season as a left-back, I don't think anyone's nailed down that position yet in regards to consistency,” Lescott said.

"I think he's aware of that but, throughout the season, he'll play in a number of positions. If you get 20 to 30 games at Man City, they're all important games.

"The Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League are all winnable so I don't think he'll begrudge it if he doesn't play in one solid position."
