Man City morning headlines as club ‘convinced’ they will sign defensive target

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Thursday, 24 September.

Joleon Lescott highlights Phil Foden's best quality

Former Man City defender Joleon Lescott has highlighted Phil Foden’s best quality - his footballing intelligence.

The highly-rated rising star started City’s first match of the season, scoring the second goal of their 3-1 away win at Wolves on Monday evening.

"It means making the right decisions at the right time with the abilities you have and knowing the capabilities of your team-mates," Lescott told ManCity.com.

“What people don’t appreciate is his intelligence.

“We can see his ability, we can see his work rate but his football intelligence is second to none. He’ll be up there with the best in the squad.

“He knows where he should be when the ball goes in behind and Raheem is running onto it and he’s there and Raheem could pick him out.”

Here’s what he had to say in full.

Manchester City ‘convinced’ Jules Kounde deal will happen

There’s growing belief in the Manchester City camp that the club will secure the signature of Sevilla centre-half Jules Kounde, according to reports.

Adding another centre-back is a top priority for Pep Guardiola, and reputable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues are lining up a €65million offer for the 21-year-old Frenchman and are ‘convinced’ it will happen.

Kounde won the Europa League with Sevilla last season and has an excellent reputation in Spain.

Here’s that story in full.

Leeds United clash moved for television broadcast

Manchester City’s away trip to face newly-promoted Leeds United has been moved to the 17:30 kick-off slot next Saturday, October 3.

City’s first trip to Elland Road since Leeds’ relegation in 2004 will be shown live on Sky Sports, and see Guardiola pit his wits against key influence Marcelo Bielsa.

The City boss hasn’t pitted his wits against the highly-regarded Argentinian tactician since his final match in charge of Barcelona, the 2012 Copa del Rey final, in which Barcelona beat Bielsa’s Athletic Bilbao side.

Here’s all the details.
