Man City morning headlines as club await Premier League decision and anticipate transfers bonanza

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Tuesday, July 14.

Premier probe

Manchester City received significant news when they had their two-year ban from European football overturned. The decision clears them from a UEFA investigation, but the Premier League are holding a separate investigation into the club's finances.

The Premier League’s investigation is not only related to Financial Fair Play but also recruitment of academy players and third-party ownership.

Whilst that is separate from UEFA’s case, the Premier League appear to have held back on any judgements until reading the verdict from their European counterparts. The Blues may well now be optimistic with the Premier League case as the club’s relationship with the organisation is not as frosty as that with UEFA.

Reaping rewards

Are Manchester City set to reap a transfers dividend after seeing the threat of a European ban lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport?

Plenty of critics had predicted an exodus of City’s best players had the two-year UEFA ban been upheld while also claiming it would become harder for Pep Guardiola and Co to recruit the best talent going forward.

However, with fears of a ban now lifted, MEN writer Simon Bajkowski believes City are set to reap the benefits.

He writes: “Put simply, if a player wants to play in the Premier League and Champions League then City are easily the best guarantee of both of those things.

"That may not be enough on its own to sway a player towards the Etihad if their heart is set elsewhere, but it is a considerable factor that cannot be ignored.

“Any cloud of uncertainty hanging over City has vanished with participation in next year's Champions League confirmed, leaving them free to pursue their summer transfer targets without financial or reputational disadvantages.

“Where rivals may have looked at the UEFA ban as a chance to make inroads on the Blues, now they will need to be careful they do not lose ground to a rejuvenated City.”

Oasis of joy

Famous Manchester City fan and former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has reacted to the overturn of the club’s European ban.

City’s two-year ban from European football was overturned on Monday following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, meaning they will return to the Champions League next season. Gallagher responded by tweeting a message to Liverpool fans who had previously mocked the club’s ban from the competition.

"What was that about being banned from Europe[?] sit down" Gallagher tweeted, before adding: "The CHUMPIONS you’ll know about it nxt season."
