Man City morning headlines as Blues sent Arsenal warning and youngster makes return

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for June 14.

City warned on Arteta’s Arsenal

Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Man City will face a tougher game than usual against Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.

The former No.2 to Pep Guardiola will come face to face with his old mentor for the first time as the Premier League gets back under way this coming week.

City have won each of their last six encounters against the north London side including a comfortable 3-0 win at the Emirates back in December, when Arsenal were managed by Freddie Ljungberg.

However, Wright-Phillips has warned his former club that this Gunners side will be a tougher nut to crack.

"I think that for City it will be won in attack. I don't think the scoreline will be that high, as Arteta has done a great job since he has come in. Closing up shop, they have been defending very well, and I haven't seen Arsenal defend as well as they have under Arteta for a while," he said.

"But at the same time, Arteta will want to get one over his old boss. It's tight enough to be an interesting game, because Arteta knows him and Pep knows Arteta, so it's going to be an interesting game of chess."

Felix Nmecha in City training

City have a number of highly promising young players on their books and Felix Nmecha is near the top of the list.

Following an EFL Cup win over Oxford last season, Pep Guardiola reserved special praise for Nmecha and defender Eric Garcia.

"It depends on them but if they have quality in some moments they can show us they can play,” the City boss said.

The teenager - whose old brother Lukas is on loan at Middlesbrough - had been set for more involvement this season but has missed most of the campaign due to a serious injury.

However, Nmecha returned to City’s Under-23 side in February and since the club’s players have returned to training he has been included in first-team sessions, as highlighted by the MEN.

The winger is an exciting talent and with increased substitutions available for the remainder of the campaign, he could yet feature under Guardiola at some point this season.

Gunners injury boost for City game

The Premier League season resumes on Wednesday night following a three-month break with City one of the first teams back in action.

Guardiola’s side host Arsenal in a game which was originally postponed back in March.

Mikel Arteta will be able to field a stronger Arsenal side for the game as full-back Kiernan Tierney and midfielder Lucas Torreira have both recovered from injuries.

Right-back Hector Bellerin will also be available for selection, although there will be no return for defender Calum Chambers.

City will move seven points clear of third-placed Leicester City with victory at the Etihad on Wednesday.
