Man City morning headlines as Barcelona target Garcia homecoming and full CAS verdict is revealed

Here are the Manchester City morning headlines for Wednesday, July 29.

Barca ‘priority’

La Liga giants Barcelona have made Eric Garcia their top priority in this summer’s transfer window, according to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The 19-year-old centre-half was born and raised in Barcelona and developed in the club’s famous La Masia academy before making the switch to City in 2007.

He’s since been capped at under-19 and under-21 level by Spain, and made the step up for Pep Guardiola’s side in recent weeks, making seven starts since the season resumed after lockdown.

City want to keep the emerging central defender, who is under contract until 2022, but Mundo Deportivo claims boyhood club Barcelona are “crazy” about signing him.

City monitoring Covid situation

Manchester City are monitoring developments after Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz tested positive for Covid-19, throwing their forthcoming Champions League clash into doubt.

Guardiola’s men hold the advantage in the long-delayed second leg, having come away from the Bernabeu with a 2-1 away win back in February.

Those away goals, coupled with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos’ suspension, make City the strong favourites to qualify for the final eight mini-tournament in Portugal next month.

The newly-crowned La Liga champions will have to satisfy both the UK government and UEFA that there is no risk involved in their squad travelling to Manchester for the match, scheduled for next Friday, August 7.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport have released the documents that provide all the details of UEFA’s failed case against City.

The club gave the international body the full leaked emails which formed the basis of UEFA’s two-year ban.

The court ultimately ruled that nothing in the emails proved that City disguised owner investment as sponsorship money, while three of UEFA’s allegations fell outside of their own statute of limitations.
