Man City morning headlines as Angelino hits back at critic in Instagram post

Here are your Manchester City morning headlines for Monday, 14 September.

Angelino hits back

It must be tough being a professional footballer in the social media age, with fans of clubs – both your own and others – more than happy to stick the boot in at every available opportunity.

Manchester City left-back Angelino has clearly had enough of such idiotic abuse if his latest Instagram comment is anything to go by.

The 23-year-old has once again returned to RB Leipzig on loan this season, and may end up joining the club at the end of the campaign on a permanent basis.

So when a ‘fan’ wrote that Spaniard wasn’t good enough, he responded by commenting: "haha great banter...can’t perform playing 1 game a month.”

Foden needs to respond well

Phil Foden has had to endure a tough week, and it had nothing to do with his efforts on the pitch.

The City midfielder was sent home early by England during the international break for breaching their Covid-19 protocols. He and Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood invited two women back to the team hotel while they were in Iceland.

It’s the first major setback of the 20-year-old’s professional career, as his performances on the field have been impressive.

The MEN's Simon Bajkowski writes here that in what is expected to be a significant season for Foden, he needs to respond well to his poor behaviour.

City youngsters have extra motivation

Having not been able to play for several months due to the lockdown brought about by the coronavirus crisis, City’s youth team have been chomping at the bit to get back into action.

Unfortunately the first match back for the under-23s team did not go according to plan. Despite being 3-1 up against Derby County, a red card for Liam Delap left the 10 men unable to hang on and City had to settle for a point.

This will not have gone down well with their new coach, Enzo Maresca. Aiming to get into his good books will provide the squad with extra motivation this season.

"We've got a new manager coming in and everyone wants to impress," said Delap. The centre-forward will need to bounce back well from being sent off to achieve his goal.
