Man City morning digest - Gabriel Jesus future, Upamecano hope, and de Bruyne ridiculousness

Agent confirms Gabriel Jesus future

Gabriel Jesus has had to play second-fiddle to Sergio Aguero throughout his Manchester City career.

However, despite a terrific goalscoring record and ability that would vindicate a move elsewhere, the Brazilian seems more than happy to stay put, as his agent, Giovanni Branchini, confirmed amid links with a move to Juventus.

“I am convinced that he will stay at City as long as City want him, as long as the team wants to maintain a certain type of profile,” Branchini explained.

“The only hypothesis I see is that if the owners should reduce their commitment or ambitions – which I don’t think will happen – he will accept the farewell, but he will never want to leave.”

It seems, then, that Jesus is here to stay.

Hope grows for Dayot Upamecano

Manchester City’s problems at centre-back are well-known and much-discussed. The difficulties they have suffered at the position following Vincent Kompany’s departure last summer have been wide-ranging and hugely undermining, and the club seems eager to fix them this summer.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has been mentioned as a possible solution on several occasions. This week, City received some welcome news in their potential pursuit of the 21-year-old defender.

According to Bild, via SportWitness, Upamecano has made it clear to Leipzig that he wishes to leave the club in the summer. And while in many cases a player’s desire to leave can simply be swatted away by the club, Leipzig could be strong-armed into a sale.

Upamecano has just one year remaining on his contract. Given his outrageous value, if Leipzig want to recoup their just rewards for scouting and developing him, they will have to cash in this summer. City, then, could look to swoop.

Transfer ridiculousness still abounds

Just in case you thought the ridiculous transfer rumours were slowing down, Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne is now the subject to more conjecture that seems to have very little foundation in reality.

According to Sport/Foot, via Sport Mole, de Bruyne is weighing up a City exit due to concerns that the club will not play in European football for the next two seasons.

In fairness, de Bruyne will turn 29 this summer. If he were to miss two more seasons of Champions League football, he would be 31 until he gets the chance to win the pinnacle club prize.

You never know in football, but take this rumour with a hefty grain of salt.
