Man City midfielder ruled out of Copa America after injury blow

Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera has been ruled out of the rest of the Copa America with injury.

Herrera, 23, missed Venezuela's first game of the tournament against Brazil and then made his return as a second-half substitute against Colombia. However, he then suffered a minor fracture to his right tibia in that match and will now be forced to miss his team's remaining games.

The talented midfielder is one of a number of players that City are expecting to use to boost their transfer funds this summer after impressing on loan in La Liga with Girona. Southampton, West Ham and a number of Spanish clubs having made their interest known in recent months.

Having previously played at another City sister club - New York City - Herrera has been on the radar of City Football Group for a number of years and his successful adaptation to European football has increased his value.

Keeping Herrera at the Etihad next season has not been ruled out entirely, but with Fernandinho expected to sign a new deal and the potential for Jack Grealish to arrive there is already plenty of competition for place in midfield. Any club that comes close to matching Herrera's £20m price tag is unlikely to be rejected as the Blues look to raise money to bring in at least two first-team signings this summer to build on another league-and-cup double.

City will have to hope that Herrera's latest injury problem does not put off any suitors from making a move in this transfer window.
