Phil Foden is looking to take advantage of the one-year postponement to Euro 2020 as he looks to break into the England national team next season.
Foden has been a regular for Manchester City since the lockdown, giving England boss Gareth Southgate what he wanted when he challenged the midfielder to play more at club level before being considered for a call-up.
Such has been Foden's form for City, he has drawn praise for his performances from all quarters, with former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand going as far as calling him the future of English football recently.
Foden accepts that as a huge compliment - especially from a former United player - and responded to Ferdinand's description of him as a 'locksmith'.
He told BT Sport: "It must take a lot for him to do that, being a United player. But I’m very thankful for what he said.
"He complimented me well and that’s what I like doing – in tight spaces, trying to unlock the defence: that’s my game."
Foden then admitted he has not spoken to Southgate since the restart about a senior call-up, but confirmed his intention to earn a spot in next summer's Euro 2020 squad.
He continued: "I’ve not spoke to Gareth, but I’m really trying to push for the England team. All I can do is perform well on the pitch and it’s up to him, the rest.
"[The Euros] being delayed has given me more game time to impress him so it could be a good thing for me."
