Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne asked if he is world's current best player

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne gave a humble answer after he was asked if there are any other players in world football currently playing at a higher level than him.

De Bruyne has started the new campaign in spellbinding form having missed large portions of the 2018-19 campaign due to a series of injuries.

The 28-year-old has been directly involved in six goals for City at the beginning of this season and he continued his fine form on the international stage with three goals and an assist in Belgium's 4-0 reverse of Scotland.

After his virtuoso display on Monday night it was put to De Bruyne that he might be the world's form player and he responded: "Fortunately I don't have to judge that.

"I just have to play well. I'm just content. I'm feeling good. I have already played many matches and am starting to come into my rhythm. That is important, because there are still many games to play.

"When your career is over, you can see what you have done afterwards. But right now I just want to win competitions. The faster we do that, the better. That can also be very important for the rest of the season."

Commenting specifically on Belgium's clinical performance at Hampden Park, De Bruyne said: "It wasn’t just the quality of play – we know the quality we have.

"Today we had to be very good in many aspects. We had to work very hard off the ball - Scotland are growing into becoming a technical team. We had to be clinical and the first goal shows you that.

"From then on, it was very easy to switch off. But the back three and Thibaut [Courtois] and the whole team, it was very pleasing to get a clean sheet."
