Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan expecting talks as he addresses future

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is expecting more talks this summer as his contract ticks down.

Pep Guardiola made the German his first signing at the Etihad when the Blues paid £20m for him in 2016 , getting a good price as the player had just one year left on his Dortmund contract.

Three years on and Gundogan is in a similar situation having shown a reluctance to commit to City beyond next year, citing an awareness that his next deal could be his last in football and that there are other challenges in the game.

However, he was a key player in the unprecedented treble last season and City are prepared to keep him at the club for the final year of his contract rather than sell him even if he doesn't sign a new deal - although confidence has grown that he will despite interest mooted from former club Dortmund.

Speaking after Germany's 8-0 win over Estonia on Tuesday, Gundogan acknowledged the club's wishes while not committing to anything concrete.

"I would know about that, I know nothing, I have not spoken to anyone," he said .

"There will be talks in the summer and then we'll see.

"I'm not dissatisfied with Manchester City and that's why I would not say that I really want to leave because the club wants to extend my contract."
