Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva could be hit with six match ban

Bernardo Silva could be facing up to a six-game ban dished out by the Football Association.

It comes after the Manchester City midfielder was charged by the authority over "insulting and/or improper" activity relating to a tweet he sent in reference to team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

Silva compared Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos - a sweet brand available in Spain and Portugal.

The charge states: "It is alleged that the Manchester City player’s activity breaches FA Rule E3(1) as it was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

"It is further alleged that the activity constitutes an 'Aggravated Breach', which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included reference, whether expressed or implied, to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin."

The Portugal playmaker has until October 9 to respond to the charges.

Man City are currently second in the Premier League table, five points behind Liverpool.
