Man City may already have their Sergio Aguero replacement

Owen Hargreaves believes Phil Foden has stepped into Sergio Aguero's shoes as the scorer of important goals at Manchester City.

Foden netted the winner for City in the second leg of their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund, sparking wild scenes on the touchline as his strike earned his side a 4-2 win on aggregate.

After also netting the winner in the first leg, Foden became just the fourth Englishman to score in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final.

Foden could have been joined on that list by Jude Bellingham, who opened the scoring for Dortmund in the second leg after controversially seeing a goal ruled out in the first game.

Speaking on BT Sport, Hargreaves lavished praise on both young Englishmen and said they are demonstrating their importance to their clubs with those sorts of performances.

He said: "I think they’re similar in the sense that they are both really special.

"They’re both really humble, they’re both unique, they’re brilliant players, they look like they love the game.

"They’re probably going to follow similar paths. Obviously Jude is a little bit younger, but Phil has risen to the occasion every time he’s been asked.

"You think about the goal he scored in the first-leg and again tonight, he’s risen up.

"His teammates are going to look at him and think: ‘Phil could be the guy for the goals’. Sergio Aguero isn’t there right now, so it could be Phil."

Hargreaves believes Foden has become a well-loved player due to his unpredictability on the ball and says that England's future looks bright after the performances of the City attacker and Bellingham.

He said: "Everybody loves him because every time he touches the ball he makes things happen.

"He can play in so many positions, we're blessed to have a young player like Phil Foden.

"Then he's doing it on this stage, like Jude Bellingham, so I think England's future is incredibly bright."
