Man City manager Taylor delighted by ‘top class’ moment in WSL derby win vs Manchester United

Manchester City Women head coach Gareth Taylor hailed the Caroline Weir goal which sealed his side’s 3-0 derby win over Manchester United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League as ‘really top class’.

Weir’s phenomenal chip from 20 yards in the final ten minutes secured City a resounding win over their neighbours after earlier strikes from Lucy Bronze and Lauren Hemp.

The City boss was impressed with his side’s all-around performance and praised the Scot for her contribution.

“We managed the game really well, and that third goal from Caroline was really top class,” he said. “We’ve seen Caroline do that - she’s done it before in the derby game at the Etihad Stadium – so we know it’s in there.

"That was really satisfactory for me and the team. It was bitterly cold out there, but throughout the 90 minutes I thought we played some excellent football.

“This is another very important three points and we’re scoring lots and lots of goals, so I can’t really ask for any more than that.”

The result has seen City and United swap places in the table with Taylor’s side now second, just two points behind leaders Chelsea.

The head coach knows the title race is full steam ahead and expects the remainder of the season to be intense.

He added: “We just need to keep taking care of what we do now and keep focusing on ourselves.

“There will be more twists and turns before the end of the season. We’ve got eight games left and after the international break it’s going to be full on again.

“This is what we’re here for, though. It’s all to play for between now and the end of the season.”
