Man City manager Pep Guardiola to give squad time off ahead of Liverpool

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will give his team a day off ahead of facing Liverpool on Sunday.

City overcame Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday while Liverpool beat Atalanta 5-0 in Italy.

The rivals now have the same amount of rest before facing each other and Guardiola confirmed he will take advantage of some 'rare' sunshine.

He said: "Honestly I saw the forecast and the next three days will be sunny time in Manchester.

"That's rare but that's why we're going to have recovery on Wednesday, then have a day off in the sunshine.

"After that, on Friday and Saturday, we're going to prepare for the game. For now, the guys need a break - all of us, the staff as well.

"We have time to prepare for the game. We've now got four or five days to recover well and prepare for Liverpool before the international break."

Guardiola named a fairly strong team to face Olympiacos but Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva all dropped to the bench.

Yet the City boss played down any idea that he had one eye on Liverpool when selecting his team.

He said: "It's not about resting top, top players.

"We decided to play this side because we need everyone, that's why all the players who play are the top.

"Ones have been rested and can now prepare to compete with the other ones, so it's the only way to go so often."
