Man City manager Pep Guardiola sent Angelino message

Manchester City fans have told Pep Guardiola that defender Angelino deserves another chance at the Etihad when he returns from his loan spell.

City opted against spending big money on a new left-back in the summer due to the emergence of Aleks Zinchenko and the willingness to give the injury-prone Benjamin Mendy another chance.

So instead the club took advantage of a buy-back clause to re-sign Angelino, just a year after the Spaniard departed the club for PSV Eindhoven.

City's decision not to significantly strengthen the left-side of the back four would back fire as Zinchenko struggled with injuries himself and wasn't able to recapture his form of last season while Mendy, although he has made more appearances this campaign than in any other for the Blues, has been unable to find the spark he had upon arriving in England.

Yet despite their struggles Angelino made just 12 appearances, though not playing particularly well in them, before he was shipped out once again in January.

The 23-year-old joined the young and exciting RB Leipzig, who are serious contenders to Bayern Munich's Bundesliga crown, and has shown that he does have quality and versatility.

Angelino quickly adapted to Leipzig's high energy style of play and proved he has the characteristics to fit in to Guardiola's side. He had a particularly brilliant game against Tottenham in the Champions League in which he ripped the right-back apart and set up the second goal.

City fans have been impressed by his performances in Germany and have called for Guardiola to give him another chance at the club when he returns.

MEN Sport asked fans: "Does left-back Angelino deserve another chance at City when he returns from his loan spell at RB Leipzig?"

The clear winner with 67.3 per cent of the 896 votes was 'yes,' with fans believing that he is better than their other options at the back, while the remaining 32.7 per cent said 'no'.
