Man City manager Pep Guardiola reacts to Kevin De Bruyne award snub

Pep Guardiola says that Kevin De Bruyne ’s brilliance speaks for itself, after the Manchester City ace was snubbed for the Footballer of the Year award.

The Blues midfielder finished as runner-up to Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in the poll, conducted by the Football Writers Association.

But De Bruyne finished with the Playmaker of the Year award in 2018 for most Premier League assists, and is sure to win it again this year, when he needs one more to equal Thierry Henry’s league record of 20.

City fans reacted with disbelief, but Guardiola balanced his praise for his Belgian star with respect for Henderson.

“I think (Kevin) speaks for himself what he gives to our team,” said the City boss. “It’s not necessary to say how fantastic Kevin is. At the same time, congratulations to the captain at Liverpool. He’s a really good player.”

De Bruyne has also scored 11 goals this season to rack up a remarkable 30 goal involvements in the league.

And Guardiola says that creating means more to him than sticking the ball in the net.
