Man City manager Pep Guardiola rates Jack Grealish Champions League debut

By Simon Bajkowski

Pep Guardiola praised Jack Grealish after his first Champions League appearance for Manchester City.

The former Aston Villa captain moved to the Etihad in summer in a British-record £100m deal with the ambition to shine on the biggest stage and in the biggest games.

He has started each of City's games so far this season under Pep Guardiola and kept his place for the Champions League opener against RB Leipzig.

As well as supplying the opening goal, as his corner was turned in by Nathan Ake, the 26-year-old then scored a terrific solo goal in the second half to restore City's two-goal advantage in a helter-skelter game that eventually ended in a 6-3 win for the Blues.

With PSG only managing to draw against Club Brugge, City already have an advantage after the opening matchday ahead of their trip to Paris in a fortnight.

Guardiola has been delighted with the new signing's contributions so far and enjoyed watching him at the Etihad as he served up a big contribution while England manager Gareth Southgate watched on inside the ground.

"Hopefully it can be the first of many," added Guardiola.

"I had the feeling that every day he is playing better in many things. I'm pretty sure that he will be better in the future and his contribution was high, it was good and I'm delighted for his game."
