Man City manager Pep Guardiola makes Leroy Sane request amid Bayern Munich pursuit

Pep Guardiola confirmed there have been no conversations with Bayern Munich about Leroy Sane as he urged the player to stay at Manchester City.

The former Bayern Munich manager has seen his old club conduct a very long and very public pursuit of the winger over the summer in their efforts to replace Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

Guardiola was not convincing on Sane after the West Ham game, suggesting that it was up to the player to decide whether he wants to stay or go.

While that remains the case, the manager took the opportunity before City's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday to ask Sane to stay at the club.

"For a long time they talk about their interest but Leroy is our player and hopefully he can stay next season and next season and next season," he said.

City remain confident that the flying forward will be at the club when the transfer window closes in August. And even though there continues to be noise from Bayern Munich about a prospective move, the fact there have not been any conversations involving Guardiola - either officially or unofficially - should add to City's belief.

Guardiola also did not rule out signing a centre-back before the transfer window closes with Vincent Kompany gone and Nicolas Otamendi potentially leaving, although he did say that Fernandinho can be used in that position.
