Man City manager Pep Guardiola makes £920,000 donation to help fight coronavirus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has donated £920,000 (€1million) to help combat the coronavirus outbreak.

The donation has been made to the Barcelona -based  Fundacio Angel Soler Daniel, who are working in conjunction with the Official College of Doctors of Barcelona.

Guardiola's generous offering will go towards buying essential health equipment needed to help treat people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 amid the global pandemic.

“Pep Guardiola has made a donation of one million euros to the Fundacio Angel Soler Daniel for the acquisition and supply of health equipment to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic," the 100-year-old medical institution said.

“The fundraising campaign led by the the Official College of Doctors of Barcelona and managed through the Foundation, is aimed at obtaining cash donations from doctors who are members of the college and the general population to buy health equipment which is currently lacking in hospitals in Catalonia.

“It will also help to finance the alternative 3D production of respirator masks and other protective items for health workers.”

The campaign had raised £30,000 before Guardiola intervened, giving the institutions a much needed boost in the battle against the disease.

The corornavirus outbreak has brought football across the world to a halt, with football in England suspended until at least April 30 and EURO 2020 delayed until 2021.
