Man City make first major transfer move that affects Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham next season

Manchester City have announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, pending the move being finalised later this year.

The 21-year-old will link up with Pep Guardiola's squad ahead of the 2022/23 season with his release clause - now reported to be in the region of €60m (£51m) - having been triggered by the Blues. Terms are still yet to be fully completed but according to The Mirror, Haaland is believed to have agreed a five-year contract which will see him take home £400,000 per week at City, plus bonuses, after he passed a medical on Monday.

The transfer brings to the end months and of speculation, with a whole host of Europe's hottest clubs lining up to sign the Norway international.

Haaland has smashed a number of domestic and European records on his rise to stardom, becoming the youngest player ever to reach half a century of Bundesliga goals. With Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea all said to be keeping a keen eye on the developments, the former Red Bull Salzburg man has opted to join the Premier League's current holders.

He will follow in dad Alf-Inge's footsteps by turning out for City, with Halaand senior having played for the club from 2000-2003. Former Molde striker Erling Haaland has burst onto the global stage over recent years, scoring 134 goals in 182 competitive club games.

Not forgetting his remarkable exploits in the UEFA Champions League too, the 21-year-old also chalked up the quickest time to reach 20 goals in the competition, doing so in just 14 games.

City announced the news via social media in a brief statement. "Manchester City can confirm we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022," it read. "The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player."
