Man City make decision on Kyle Walker punishment after latest lockdown breach

Kyle Walker will not be punished by Manchester City after he was caught breaking lockdown rules again.

The 29-year-old was subject to an internal disciplinary procedure last month after The Sun reported that he had hosted a party at his flat to go against government orders for everyone to stay at their own home, prompting strongly-worded criticism from the club. The same newspaper on Friday clocked Walker visiting both his sister and his parents this week despite no change in social distancing rules.

However, it is understood that there will be no similar action or condemnation from the club this time as the two incidents are not viewed in the same way and there is sympathy for Walker's situation.

Walker himself took to Twitter following the publication of the article to write a lengthy defence of his actions, asking for his mental health to be taken into consideration and questioning the newspaper scrutiny on him and his family.

"I am a human being, with feelings of pain and upset just like everybody else. Being in the public eye as a professional athlete does not make you immune to this," he added.

"It is sad, but I feel as though my life is being scrutinised without any context. I understand if people are upset or angry with me, but it was important for people to have a better understanding of my life.

"Thank you for taking the time to hear my feelings."

Walker is expected to join back up with his teammates at the City Football Academy when a date can be agreed for players to safely return to training, with the Premier League aiming to get the season back underway next month if a consensus can be reached with clubs and government.
