Man City 'make bid for' Kalidou Koulibaly and more transfer rumours

Manchester City have lodged a bid to Napoli for centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.

After a disappointing domestic campaign in which they have only managed to lift the Carabao Cup, City are looking to refresh their squad this summer with a new centre-back being the top priority.

City have struggled at the back this season after failing to replace Vincent Kompany last summer and due to the injury issues suffered by Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

M.E.N. Sport understands that the Blues have a four-man centre-back shortlist for this summer which includes Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Pau Torres, as well as Koulibaly.

According to Corriere dello Mezzogiorno, via SportWitness, City have made a bid for the Senegal international but it reportedly doesn't reach Napoli's asking price.

It's claimed that the Serie A side's lofty valuation of Koulibaly may have lowered in a post-coronavirus market but they will still demand a hefty €70-80million, which may be too much for City for a 29-year-old.

City will also be wary of dealing with Napoli after losing out on Jorginho to Chelsea two seasons ago after already having a verbal agreement for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, in perhaps the most bizarre rumour of the year so far, City will reportedly reignite their interest in Alexis Sanchez this summer.

Tuttosport, via SemperInter, report that City are looking into matching Manchester United's £18m asking price for flop Sanchez, who the Blues were interested in when he moved to Old Trafford from Arsenal.

City couldn't afford the move at the time, and it appears to have been a blessing in disguise as Sanchez has been disappointing at United and has spent this season at Inter Milan on loan.

Perhaps this rumour comes from Pep Guardiola's mention of Sanchez last week, when he was speaking about players City couldn't afford but their rivals could.
