Man City lose defender Eric Garcia to injury vs Marseille

Manchester City lost defender Eric Garcia early in their Champions League group match against Marseille tonight.

Pep Guardiola made several changes to his starting lineup with his side having already qualified as group winners, and with an eye on the derby against Manchester United on Saturday.

Garcia lined up alongside the returning Aymeric Laporte in the centre-back position, and had a comfortable opening 20 minutes.

But soon after he appeared to suffer a left leg injury, which hadn't appeared to have been sustained under any challenge.

He soon left the field, replaced by substitute John Stones.

The enforced change could give the City manager a headache when choosing his squad for Old Trafford at the weekend, although he's likely to start with Laporte and Ruben Dias in the centre-back roles.

But Stones has seen an uplift in form and a resulting increase in game time in recent weeks, and he'll be hoping an unexpectedly early appearance tonight might put him in with a chance of starting against United.

City were well on top in the first half at the Etihad Stadium, but were held to 0-0 going into the half-time break.
