Man City loanee Tommy Doyle reacts after scoring first Sheffield United goal

Manchester City loanee Tommy Doyle has spoken of his delight after scoring his first goal for Sheffield United in the Championship side's victory over Coventry City.

The 21-year-old, who is spending the season on loan at Bramall Lane from City, has made 16 appearances for the Blades so far this season. He scored his first goal of the campaign just one minute after coming off the bench in the 3-1 Boxing Day win over Mark Robins' side.

Doyle has featured on seven occasions for City since coming through the youth set-up - making his debut in an FA Cup victory over Port Vale in 2020.

The midfielder scored the Blades' third and final goal in the triumph over Coventry on Monday afternoon. Doyle suggested that he was hopeful of getting on the scoresheet earlier, but admitted that he was delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net.

"I think it's taken me a little bit longer than I would've liked, I've had a few little chances and a few good saves from the goalkeepers, but I'm buzzing for it to finally go in," Doyle told in-house media.

He added: "I was just in the box and the ball got flashed across by Lowey [Max Lowe], I had a yard on a few of the defenders, opened up my body and thankfully it went in."

Doyle has missed a few games through injury so far this season, and said that it had been frustrating as he felt he was in good form prior to being sidelined.

"It was really frustrating for me because I thought I was playing well and playing regularly. Injuries are part of the game but it feels good to be back and in the goals," the 21-year-old stated.

He continued: "I always want to play games, so the most important thing for me is to keep working hard in training, listening to the manager and the players, but the most important thing for us is picking up the three points."

Doyle's fellow City teammates James McAtee was also on the scoresheet for Paul Heckingbottom's side. The 20-year-old has registered two goals for the Blades this term.
