Man City winger Patrick Roberts joins Middlesbrough after Norwich spell cut short

Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of Man City winger Patrick Roberts on loan for the rest of the season.

Spending the first half of the campaign at Norwich, Roberts failed to impress at Carrow Road, and was restricted to just 24 minutes of Premier League action, with the last of his three top-flight cameos coming on October 5.

His only other outing came in the Carabao Cup defeat by League Two side Crawley last August.

"Let's be honest Patrick was the fourth choice on the winger position and it could be we can do some business with him in the next hours or days," Norwich boss Daniel Farke said on New Year's Day.

With the January transfer window allowing for Roberts to be recalled, City have exercised that option and have sent the Englishman out on loan to the Championship for the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old has joined up with Middlesbrough, who will be hoping his arrival can help boost them up the table.

“It’s great Patrick has signed up for the club," Boro manager Jonathan Woodgate said. “He’s an exciting player, he wants to play games, and he has the bit between his teeth.

“He fits the mould of what we’re looking at. He’s young and hungry, and wants to do well.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have a player of Patrick’s calibre at this football club.”

Roberts impressed during a two-year loan spell at Celtic after joining City from Fulham in 2015. He was sent to Girona last season, but his campaign was disrupted by injury.
