Man City line up vs Real Madrid includes Fernandinho, Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden

Phil Foden, Fernandinho and Joao Cancelo all start for Manchester City in their biggest game of the season so far.

Pep Guardiola's side take on Real Madrid at the Etihad in the second leg of their last-16 clash hoping to build on their 2-1 advantage from their victory at the Bernabeu, with the winners going through to face either Juventus or Lyon next week as the Champions League moves to Lisbon for the final three rounds.

City have been training for the past fortnight specifically for this game, and the manager has decided to trust Joao Cancelo and Fernandinho in two key defensive positions.

Cancelo has had a frustrating first season at the club but was praised by Guardiola for his transformation since the players returned from lockdown, and was used at left-back against Watford and Norwich last month. He gets the nod there ahead of Aleks Zinchenko, with Benjamin Mendy suspended.

Fernandinho has barely been used since the restart, with Eric Garcia the preferred partner for Aymeric Laporte in the middle. Garcia, who has told the club he will not sign a new contract amid strong interest from Barcelona, has to settle for a place on the bench with Fernandinho returning for just his third start in the last ten games.

Ederson and Kyle Walker complete the back five and ahead of them in midfield will be Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne - the same trio that helped the Blues to victory in the first leg.

In attack, Foden and Raheem Sterling flank Gabriel Jesus.

CITY: Ederson, Walker, Fernandinho, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodrigo, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Foden, Sterling, Jesus

Subs: Bravo, Stones, Zinchenko, Bernardo, Silva, Mahrez, Otamendi, Garcia, Doyle, Harwood-Bellis, Palmer, Bernabe
