Man City 'line up' summer transfer swoop for former target Dani Alves

Manchester City are set to renew their efforts to sign Dani Alves , according to reports .

The Brazil right-back is now a free agent after two season with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

City boss Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on a reunion with the defender - who played under him at Barcelona and has an incredible career haul of 40 trophies after Brazil's Copa America triumph on Sunday.

And according to Globoesporte, former Barcelona defender Alves is on his way back to Europe to listen to offers from two clubs.

It is not known whether City are one of those clubs, but he is a previous target for City, and Guardiola worked with Alves during his trophy-laden spell as Barcelona boss.

Alves is now 36, but would provide much-needed high-quality competition for right-back Kyle Walker. Alves' compatriot Danilo, the only other natural right-back at City, could be set for a move this summer.

At City he would also team up with Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus.

In a career spanning 18 years and five clubs, Alves has claimed domestic league and cup wins, at Barcelona, Juventus and PSG.

He won three Champions League crowns while with Barcelona in 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Alves has also enjoyed a successful career for his country, winning the Copa America in 2007 and the Confederations Cup twice in 2009 and 2013 before his second Copa triumph on Sunday night.

The Brazil defender hit back at former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi after the Argentine accused the Copa America of being "set up for Brazil" and slammed organisers CONMEBOL for "corruption".

Alves told Globo Esporte : "A friend is not always right just because he's a friend. You can say it in the heat of the moment, but I will continue to disagree.

"In the first place, there is a lack of respect for an institution like the Brazilian national team, in my opinion.

"Secondly, it is being disrespectful with several professionals who put aside many things to be there, fighting for a dream.

"I am a friend who always tells the truth when it is due, and I think he was wrong to say these things."
