Man City legend Shaun Goater identifies perfect transfer alternative to Harry Kane

Manchester City should copy Belgium's success and target Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to club legend Shaun Goater.

City want to sign a big-name replacement for Sergio Aguero this summer, and have targeted Harry Kane as a priority following the Tottenham striker's admission he wants to leave to win trophies.

Kane said he would love to play with Kevin De Bruyne, but signing him will be difficult and expensive for City. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy insists he won't sell his star striker, and City know it will cost a significant amount to bring him to the Etihad this summer.

So perhaps City will have to look elsewhere for a new striker, and Goater believes Lukaku would be a perfect fit.

Ahead of Belgium's game against Portugal at Euro 2020, Goater took to social media to suggest Lukaku as a transfer alternative, given his relationship with Kevin De Bruyne at international level.

De Bruyne and Lukaku are key members of Belgium's 'Golden Generation', and both have shone at Euro 2020 so far.

As a result, Goater said Lukaku should be a serious alternative to Kane, posting: "Can someone tell me that [Romelu Lukaku] is a serious alternative for City? KDB servicing him on a regular."

Last week, Lukaku spoke of his relationship with De Bruyne, saying: “With Kevin, I have the best friendship in the entire national squad.

“We tell each other stuff that we don’t tell other people. We trust each other massively.”

City are also interested in Jack Grealish as they look to refresh their squad ahead of the new season. Any deals are likely to be done after Euro 2020 is done and players are no longer concentrating on their national sides.
