Man City legend Sergio Aguero provides update on heart problem amid three-month layoff

Sergio Aguero says he is in good spirits after learning he will be out of action for three months with a cardiac problem, adding that the messages of support he has received 'make his heart stronger'.

Aguero, 33, was substituted in Barcelona's La Liga draw with Alaves this weekend complaining of chest discomfort, before being sent straight to hospital for cardiac tests.

As a result of those examinations, Barcelona have confirmed that Aguero will be unavailable for at least the next three months in an update posted on Monday evening.

They wrote: "Kun Aguero has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure by Dr. Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process."

The former Manchester City player has not had the best time since leaving the Etihad, with close friend Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona shortly after Aguero's arrival, before an injury setback ruled him out of action until last month. Aguero had made just two starts for Barca so far — and scored his first goal late on against Real Madrid — until his latest setback this week.

Posting on social media after confirmation of his three month absence, he wrote: "I am well and in good spirits to face the recovery process.

"I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and affection that make my heart stronger today."

Former City teammates were quick to send messages to Aguero after his latest diagnosis, with Fernandinho saying: "All strength in the world and stay strong."

Aymeric Laporte wrote: "Cheer up brother" while John Stones said: "We're all with you mate, get well soon."
