Man City legend outlines what could swing the Premier League title race with Liverpool FC

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan believes the outcome of City's Premier League title race with Liverpool could be determined by the performance of each side's goalkeepers.

City's Ederson and Liverpool's Alisson have set the standard in goal this season, with the latter top of the Premier League clean sheets standings with 17 - three more than his compatriot.

Ederson took the league by storm after his arrival at the Etihad in the summer of 2017, earning regular plaudits for his ability with the ball at his feet.

Alisson's maiden campaign at Anfield has seen Jurgen Klopp's side vie with City for the closest title race since 2014, with City holding a game in hand over Liverpool who sit two points clear of the top of the table.

City have eight games left in which to fend off Liverpool and retain their league title and Corrigan, who made 476 league appearances for City, says Ederson's experience of the league could prove vital.

Man City legend Mike Summerbee runs rule over quadruple chances

"They will have a massive say," the 70-year-old said at the premier of 'The Keeper' film, which details the life of City legend Bert Trautmann. "They've both done really well.

"I think it could end up on that situation in terms of which of the two come out the best in the remaining games but I wouldn't put my money on the best of the two.

"I think Ederson's got a little bit more nous about him with regards to the Premier League. It's Alisson's first season, we can't forget. I thought he could have done better with the save against Fulham at the weekend [when Alisson was involved with a mix-up with Virgil Van Dijk that led to Fulham's equaliser].

"You can't afford to make that kind of mistake between now and the end of the season."
