Man City leading race for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are reportedly leading the race for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest as the January transfer window nears.

Dest’s future at the Camp Nou is the subject of plenty of speculation heading into the New Year, with the Catalan giants said to be open to selling the United States international as they try to build up some funds.

The 21-year-old has made 16 appearances in all competitions so far this season, with his performances prompting links with some of Europe’s top clubs.

Bayern Munich are thought to also be in the running but, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional (via SportsMole ), City are leading the pack for Dest’s signature.

The report suggests that Pep Guardiola now sees Joao Cancelo as a left-back, and wants to bring Dest to the Etihad as competition for Kyle Walker.

The full-back still has three and a half years remaining on his contract in Spain, but with Barca facing financial difficulties at the moment, City may well be able to get Dest at a cut-price.

Elsewhere, City are said to be in the ‘front row’ to sign in-demand Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahvovic.

The 21-year-old is being linked with a whole host of clubs ahead of January, having started the season in sparkling form with 15 goals and two assists from 17 league games.

La Repubblica (via Sport Witness ) have suggested that, despite Fiorentina’s urge to sell Vlahovic given his unwillingness to sign a new contract, he won’t be available for less due to his agent’s demands.

Nevertheless, City are said to have overtaken some of their rivals in the race to sign the Serbia international, with Arsenal, Juventus and Tottenham also in the running.

Guardiola reportedly considers Vlahovic to be the ‘perfect striker’, with City ‘pushing’ to get the signing done, despite no suggestion of negotiations beginning with Fiorentina.
