Man City issue strong statement after Phil Foden and family attacked on night out

Manchester City say they are shocked and appalled after Phil Foden and his family were assaulted on a night out.

Footage circulated on social media of an altercation between Foden, his family and a separate group. The video appears to show a male punching Foden's mother, sparking angry scenes involving Foden, while another man was seen wielding a fire extinguisher against the aggressors.

The incident was believed to have taken place as Foden attended the Amir Khan vs Kell Brook boxing match on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena after City played Tottenham in the Premier League.

Foden was seen trying to remove himself and his family from the situation before they reacted angrily to the assault on his mother.

In a statement, City stressed that they were aware of the shocking footage and would support Foden and his family following the incident.

They said: “The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused.

"We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members.

"We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need.”

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "GMP are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a disturbance at the AO Arena last night.

"We are conducting some further enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
