Man City issue injury update on Kevin De Bruyne injury ahead of crunch games

Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out of Wednesday's Premier League game against Aston Villa as he faces a fight to be fit for the biggest games left in the season.

Manchester City saw their Quadruple dreams disappear with a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday and the loss was tougher to take because talisman De Bruyne limped off in the second half with an injury to his foot and ankle.

City have now confirmed that he will miss at least their next match and while it is too early to say whether he will recover in time for the Carabao Cup final and Champions League semi-final this month Pep Guardiola will have to consider preparations for those key matches without the Belgian. The manager will be asked for a further update in his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Aston Villa game.

The club statement read: "Manchester City can confirm that Kevin De Bruyne suffered injury to his right foot and ankle in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

"The extent of the problem is not yet known. Kevin will continue to be reviewed but will miss Wednesday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

"We will bring you further updates on his condition in due course."

City also put a brief statement on their website on Sunday evening carrying quotes from Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer confirming their intended participation in the breakaway European Super League, but have so far offered no comment despite a furious backlash from supporters.
