Man City injury boost as Sergio Aguero passed fit for FA Cup semi-final

Sergio Aguero is set to be involved in Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton after recovering from injury.

The Argentine, who limped out of last week’s game against Fulham and missed the midweek clash with Cardiff, will travel with Pep Guardiola’s squad to Wembley.

Aguero has been able to take part in training this week, and Guardiola will decide overnight if he is fit enough to start the Saturday tea time game.

The 29-year-old has been described as ‘almost fit’ – but City will be reluctant to take any chances ahead of a critical period, which sees them face Tottenham three times in the Champions League and Premier League in the space of two weeks.

Guardiola also confirmed Alex Zinchenko is out for 10-12 days after sustaining hamstring damage in the 2-0 win against Cardiff.

“Not everybody is fit, but almost everybody,” he said. “Sergio Aguero is almost fit. He will travel with the squad.”

City remain in contention for an unprecedented quadruple, with the next month set to prove pivotal to their hopes of a clean sweep.

Guardiola warned their hopes of making history could be lost in the space of a week – but he has been encouraged by his players’ focus as they continue to battle on all fronts.

“They all like to play football,” he added. “When the results are going well it’s easier.

“Every game I try to think a bit about what is coming up - but always the focus is on the next game.”
