Man City in race to make first China tour game vs West Ham after flight cancelled again

Manchester City are facing a race against time to make their first pre-season tour match after their flight was cancelled for a second successive day.

Pep Guardiola and his squad were due to fly out to Shanghai from Manchester on Saturday but the plane was grounded because they had not been given a permit for a Chinese airspace.

The group were expected to head out on Sunday instead but the problem had not been solved in time, meaning the problem has spilled into Monday.

City remain confident they will be able to carry out their duties in the Premier League Asia Trophy, but with their first game scheduled for Wednesday time is ticking down for them to arrive and there is no certainty on when the Blues will be able to fly out.

Fellow Premier League teams West Ham, Wolves and Newcastle are already in China for the tournament.

MEN Sport understand that the same "unforeseen administrative issue" that saw Saturday's flight cancelled was also the cause for the club not flying out on Sunday.

A City statement said: "Due to an unforeseen administrative issue beyond the club’s control, which is being resolved, regrettably, we will embark on our pre-season tour a little later than intended."

The City players trained at the City Football Academy on Sunday and were on stand by to go to the airport but were allowed to go home.
