Man City hopeful over Leroy Sane 'double your money' contract extension

Manchester City are hopeful of agreeing a contract extension with Leroy Sane before the end of the season.

City have been in talks with Sane’s representatives since last autumn, with the Germany winger’s current deal running until 2021.

The terms on offer with the extension – believed to be three years - are likely to see Sane, who joined City from Schalke for £37million in 2016, double his wages to around £180,000-a-week.

Sane is the last of City’s core of attacking players to sign a new deal, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus all having penned extensions.

Why Man City's Lukas Nmecha did a 'reverse Rice' — ditching England for Germany

After a slow start to the season, when he was in and out of Pep Guardiola’s side, Sane is now back to his best, with 14 goals and 17 assists this term.

His impressive form for City has seen him reclaim his international place, after he was left out of Germany’s World Cup last summer.

The 23-year-old scored in Germany’s thrilling 3-2 Euro 2020 qualifier win over Holland and has rediscovered the form that saw him crowned PFA Young Player of the Year last season.

Sane indicated his willingness to sign an extension earlier this season, when he said he felt “at home” at City and revealed his desire to keep working with Pep Guardiola and his team-mates.
